3rd  Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) Meeting of the Ministerial Process in Rome

The Third Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) meeting of the Ministerial Process of the 5th World Water Forum, hosted by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and co-organized by the World Water Council will be held at the FAO Headquarters in Rome on 21-23 January 2008.

The first day of the aforementioned meeting will be allocated to discussions on the content of the revised version of the Chairperson’s Paper which was discussed during the PrepCom II in Geneva. Deliberations will also take place on the format and use of this paper, which is envisaged to be attached to the Ministerial Statement of the 5th World Water Forum.

In addition to national governments and international organizations, relevant major stakeholders will be able to participate in the discussions on the Chairperson’s Paper. The rest of the meeting will be devoted to the negotiations of the Ministerial Statement, the principle message emanating from the Ministers attending to the Ministerial Conference at the 5th World Water Forum. This UN-style compact document will be discussed phrase by phrase only by national governments and international organizations. The relevant major stakeholders will be given an opportunity to comment on the Ministerial Statement just at the beginning of the second day.
